The Ibogaine Fireside Chat :
Trimurti is hosting a special guest from Africa, Moughenda Mikala and American Shaman, Dimitri Mobengo Mugianis who will lead a discussion about the plant spirit, Ibogaine.
Ibogaine is an alkaloid derived from the root of the African plant tabernanthe Iboga. It is a hallucinogenic substance used in the initiation ceremonies of the Gabonese Bwiti society. Through the Ibogaine ceremony, you will be able to focus on the underlying causes of your addiction without having to go through the usual intense withdrawal symptoms that accompany most other forms of detox. It acts by giving the person an intensive 30 or so hours of 'therapy'. The person gets to identify and remove the emotional reasons why they took to drugs in the first place. With the reason for taking drugs gone, the desire to take drugs again also goes. Some people who have taken Ibogaine reported an increased feeling of responsibility for their life. A better description of the effects of ibogaine would be oneirophrenic, or "dream creating". To a bystander it would appear that a person on ibogaine was simply lying down in a state of partial sleep while having dreams. Some patients report their experience as if they were watching a movie of their life, or as if they were able to reorganize the file cabinets in their brains. Every person's experience is as unique as the individual themself; however, all insights into the subconscious and superconscious mind might be a valuable foundation for a future without drugs. During the weeks after ibogaine treatment people find that they can sort through issues that may have burdened them; change compulsive behaviors; and become receptive to therapy.
Hosts:
Dimitri Mugianis is a nganga (shaman) Healer, and Spoken Word Artist who has been initiated into the Bwiti. Dimitri leads healings in and around the tri-state area and is known for his compassion and integrity as he leads his clients through the healing process of working with Iboga the sacred plant spirit medicine that is native to Africa's Gabon. Dimitri was able to overcome at 20-year addiction to Heroine in just one session by working with the Plant Spirit.
Moughenda Mikala is a tenth generation nganga (shaman) of the Missoko Bwiti. Moughenda was born and raised in Libreville, Gabon and Mimongo Village, the home of the Massango tribe on his mother's side. His father is from the Mitsogho tribe. Ibogaine legalization supporters come to UI By Rebecca Spizzirri
Students for Sensible Drug Policy is hosting three activist speakers, Dana Beal, John Sinclair and Justin Kirkland, in support of Ibogaine legalization. The event takes place Thursday at the Architecture Building, 608 E. Lorado Taft Drive, Champaign, in Room 120 at 7 p.m.
Ibogaine is a psychoactive compound found in the bark of an African shrub. Some research shows that it can treat drug addiction by alleviating painful withdrawal symptoms. Ibogaine is available in Canada and Mexico but is a Schedule 1 illegal substance in the United States.
"It's a new drug that they're using in rehab because it's not addictive," said the group's president, Laura Allured, a sophomore in LAS. The group focuses on educating and engaging youth in the political process and discussing our national drug problems candidly.
"We try to get speakers whenever we can," Allured said. "Especially when there's something important going on like the medical marijuana bill."
The speakers will discuss Ibogaine legalization as well as other activist issues, such as the war on drugs. Ashley Barys, graduate student, is a member of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. She met Beal last year at an activist event, forging a connection that led Beal to the University on his tour.
Dana Beal is perhaps most famous for his support of the legalization of marijuana through the Global Million Marijuana March, which takes place annually on the first Saturday in May in cities worldwide. He is also an activist for the Youth International Party.
John Sinclair is a co-founder of the White Panther Party, an anti-racism political group, as well as a musician and a music journalist. According to Sinclair's official Web site, he regularly attends rallies supporting marijuana legalization across the United States.
Justin Kirkland is working to develop a safer form of Ibogaine called 18MC, which he will discuss Thursday night.
"I don't know much about Ibogaine, and it's really controversial," Barys said. "I'm excited to become more informed on the issue."
Some students have mixed feelings about the event.
"I'm against the legalization of marijuana," said Mary Margaret Brown, freshman in LAS, "but I'm all for free speech."

Webmaster Comment: Apologies for late posting. Ref: http://hiwrite.com/ibogaine2.html THE MAN WHO CURED ADDICTION Howard Lotsof and the Miracle of Ibogaine On Wednesday, December 3, 2008 Howard Lotsof, the world’s leading ibogaine researcher, will be interviewed Larry King-style in an open forum at CUNY-The College of Staten Island. For the first time he will also oversee a simulated ibogaine session, in which individuals experience all the highs and lows of an actual therapeutic dose onstage in front of the audience. Press conference and photo op immediately following. Ibogaine interrupts addiction to heroin, cocaine, morphine and alcohol — with one treatment. The stunning nature of Mr. Lotsof’s discoveries, and the fact that his patents for the interruption of addiction have been granted by the U.S. government, will be the subject of the presentation. This topic touches the lives of all Americans, as well as people worldwide. Audience members will also have a chance to “call in” with questions during this session with the legendary Mr. Lotsof. Ibogaine induces a thirty-six-hour period of insight, after which even heavy opiate users find themselves transformed psychologically, and totally free of withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings. Scientists the world over have been amazed by ibogaine’s effects. You too will be astonished and entertained by Mr. Lotsof’s descriptions of the effects of ibogaine. Come find out why it is legal in most of the world, including Canada and the Netherlands, but illegal in the country that needs it most, the United States, where each year drug addiction costs more than the War in Iraq. This is a serious presentation on a serious topic, but it also promises to be "More entertaining than Timothy Leary." WHERE: Springer Concert Hall (Building 1P) College of Staten Island 2800 Victory Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10314 WHEN: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 3:30 PM (Admission free) Co-sponsored by the Department of English, Speech, and World Literature. |

BOSTON PRESIDENTS DAY WEEKEND IBOFORUM from Dana Beal Ibogaine–Like LSD and marijuana, this revolutionary polydrug addiction interrupter from Africa is also classified as a Schedule I drug (which means “a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use”). But it’s also highly effective–and highly illegal. In the meantime, if you know someone who needs to kick, ibogaine treatments are available in the South Africa, Canada, Mexico and the Netherlands– and there’s a growing network of underground treatment providers in NYC and around the country. Canada’s Iboga Therapy House (http:// www.ibogatherapyhouse.net/cms/) is conducting a long-term observational case study of people undergoing ibogaine-based addiction treatment for opiate dependence. And an updated protocol for a Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies-sponsored study investigating ibogaine treatment outcomes at the Ibogaine Association in Playas De Tijuana, Mexico was recently submitted to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). If the IRB approves the protocol, researchers will be able to begin to administer the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) to 30 clients on a monthly basis for one year after ibogaine treatment in order to better understand the short and longer-term outcomes of ibogaine treatment for opiate addiction. Knowledge of ibogaine keeps growing exponentially through newspaper and magazine articles, and books and documentaries are in the works. Draft Schedule for Saturday, Feb. 14th Thru Monday, Feb 16-- Saturday, Feb 14th 10 AM to 6 PM *Ibogaine 101 *Ibogaine Safety & Treatment Protocols for Different Drugs *Advanced Ibogaine Party 8 PM Sunday, Feb 15 11 AM to 6 PM *Ibogaine for hepatitis C & Other Indications *Ibogaine vs. other detoxes *Ibogaine & other psychedelics used to curb addiction Reception 6 PM Monday, Feb 16th 10 AM to 4 PM *Ibogaine Development and the Harm Reduction Movement *Ibogaine Aftercare in the Boston area *Action for Ibogaine in Massachusettes and on the Federal Level Location To Be Announced.
