Speaking from Springfield, advocates tout benefits of psychedelic therapy

SPRINGFIELD — Astranada Gamsey said she’d always had anxiety around germs.

In 2020, during the depths of the pandemic, that anxiety mushroomed into full-fledged obsession and agoraphobia leaving her isolated, unable to leave her home, consumed with her own thoughts. What helps, Gamsey said, is therapy with natural psychedelic substances.

A ballot question posed to Massachusetts voters in November would allow people ages 21 and older to grow, possess and use specified psychedelics: psilocybin and psilocyn in mushrooms, and dimethyltryptamine (DMT), mescaline (peyote), and ibogaine in plants.
